Become a Judge

Judging the competition is a great opportunity to help shape entrepreneurial high-growth companies throughout Wisconsin. BPC judges include investors, academics, experienced entrepreneurs, and other professionals interested in the development of high-growth companies that will define Wisconsin’s future.

Judge Requirements and Guidelines

  • Review a maximum of fifty (50) 250-word business concepts during phase 1 of the competition
  • Review a maximum of twelve (12) 1000-word summarized business plans during phase 2 of the competition.
  • Review a maximum of six (6) final plans during phase 3 of the competition.
  • Remain impartial and at a discreet distance from the participating teams during the Competition.
  • Guard the confidentiality of the business plans reviewed during the Competition.

Judging Timeline

  • Phase 1: 250 word business concepts from Feb 5-19, 2009
  • Phase 2: 1,000 word summary business plans from March 17-31, 2009
  • Phase 3: Final Business Plans from April 29 - May 21, 2009

During Phase 1, scores and feedback are collected online from registered judges. Once the scores are collected, the average score is calculated and the plans are ranked. Plans with equal ranking will be examined along with the judges' comments; the BPC Advisory Committee will make the final determination on equally ranked plans.

The process continues similarly for Phases 2 and 3. Phase 3 judging will incorporate an oral presentation in addition to the written business plan.

On either June 2 or 3, 2009, judges will be invited to hear oral presentations from the Phase 3 participants prior to the BPC Awards Ceremony at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference in Milwaukee June 9-10, 2009.
